Reading is one of the primary sources of new knowledge and understanding in this course.  Strengthen your learning by answering several questions about each article you read (or film you watch). Submit your Reading Notes in-class on the day the reading is assigned. Earn up to 1.5 points per reading.

Quizzes

​Strengthen your retention of key information and demonstrate your learning by answering questions from the readings, class presentations, and films. Earn up to 4 points per quiz; six quizzes offered during the semester (lowest score dropped).

Discovery Research Design
What would you like to discover?  Propose a discovery using the format "real" archaeologists use to find and discover things and change what we know about ourselves.

Book: Select one from the list 
Deepen your understanding of archaeological discoveries by selecting one of the books available for this course and answering the book questions available here.

Participation, attendance
(not extra credit but part of your grade)
There are 41 classes from 26 January through 8 May.  We do not start counting classes attended until after the last day for late registration, 23 January. From 26 January to 8 May, 0.5 points will be awarded for each class you attend.  If you attend more than 40 classes, the additional class attended will count as extra credit.

In-class activity. 
We may occasionally have an in-class activity designed to help us meet the learning objectives for the course.  These activities will not be on the course calendar and may or may not be announced. The successful completion of some of these activities, which may simply be participating in the activity, may result in points added to your grade.  Not all in-class activities will result in additional points.
