Peer Review
One of the most important aspects of the process of scientific knowledge creation is peer review. In science, peer review occurs after an author/s submits a written work (article, book, etc.) for publication. Scientists that work in the same field are asked to evaluate the quality of the work. After a careful reading of the submitted work, these scientists (peer reviewers) send a written evaluation of the work to the publisher or editor requesting the evaluation. The reviewers will recommend that the editor "accept without revision," "accept with revision," or "reject" the submit work. Even if the quality of the work is high, most reviewers will suggest revisions.
In this class you will serve as a peer reviewer for two cross-cultural comparative studies produced by fellow students. Your goal is to help each author improve the quality of his/her study.
Peer review steps:
1. Bring two printed copies of your study to class on the scheduled peer review day. Do not put your name on the study; use only your student ID. You must attend this class to earn these points.
2. Read closely the studies you received in class and write comments throughout to help your fellow students improve the quality of their study.
3. Fill out the cross-cultural study grading rubric form found on the cross-cultural study page and complete your review by the end of class.
Everyone that submits a complete draft of their cross-cultural study for peer review and reviews two studies will receive full credit for this activity. If you do not have a complete draft to submit for review, you will not earn any credit for this activity.
