GROUP PRESENTATIONS/activities
Based on the assumption that teaching something to others is the best way to learn a subject, each of you will join a group to present on one of four topics that are important to understand before we arrive at Crow Canyon.
The four topics include: Pottery analysis, Lithics analysis, Basketmaker III culture history and material culture and Pueblo II culture history and material culture. As you design your group presentation, please know that the primary learning objective is for all of us to be prepared for our work at Crow Canyon. The more we know, the more we will get out of the experience. We want to be able to "see" the people behind the artifacts and we want to know what types of behavioral inferences we can make from specific types of artifacts.
Toward this learning goal, with your group, please design a 20-30 minute learning activity relying on your reading of the assigned sources and any outside research on the topic you decide to pursue. You cannot present everything in the readings so you must decide what is important for us to know. Also consider HOW you would like to be taught based on being on the receiving end of information and knowledge transfer led by countless teachers you have encountered. Did you prefer to listen to and see a Powerpoint presentation, did you prefer a discussion of the readings, were hands-on activities the most effective method for you to learn; or, was it a combination of techniques and approaches? Please don't develop a presentation that you wouldn't want to receive.
Our expectations are high. We all want to learn and we don't want to have our time wasted. What will you do?
All group members will receive the same number of points for the presentation and your audience will submit their assessment of your presentation anonymously. You will be assessed based on the following criteria:
1) Contribution to an individual's learning
2) Ability to hold the audience's attention
3) Creativity and novel approaches to learning
At the end of your presentation, please distribute a ten question quiz. After everyone has completed the quiz, please go over the correct answers. The best questions will be used within the Key concepts quiz.
We all look forward to your presentation!
