ehraf search method 1
Method 1, Using A-Z Index
1) In the eHRAF Archaeology database, select "Browse SUBJECTS." Type "monumental architecture" in the Filter Index. Select "Subject Description" and "Broader Subject." Select "Structures under "BROADER SUBJECT" and write down the Broader Term: "Technology and Material Culture" from the pop up box. The goal is to find "monumental architecture" within the "Add Subjects" category in the next step. (Also, please see the Advanced Search Tutorials provided by eHRAF).
2) Select, "ADVANCED Search." Under "Add Traditions" select "Select All" Traditions.
3) Select "Add Subject." In the pop-up box, click on "Technology and Material Culture" (do NOT click on the "Technology and Material Culture" box as this will add ALL items under "Technology and Material Culture"). Select (don't check) the word "Structures." As monumental structures can be an unspecified type of Architecture (341), Public structures (344), or Religious and educational structures (346), and maybe even Recreational structures (345) or Miscellaneous structures (349, which will cover funerary structures) you can search on one to five topics. Select "Add Subjects" at the bottom of the pop-up box and they will appear in the white box under "Add Subjects."
4) Under "Add Keywords" type "monumental architecture" (add the parens). Select the "And" operator under Keywords. As different kinds of words are used in different parts of the world to describe "monumental architecture" and many archaeologists won't have used the phrase "monumental architecture, " you may want to try different words.
5) Select the yellow "Search" button below the Add Keywords" section. If you have used the five categories with the phrase "monumental architecture" you will have 86 paragraphs in 54 documents in 26 cultures/traditions.
